When You Fall, You Will Rise: A Devotional on Micah 7:8

If you know anything about Rise Up, you know our name comes from a single, defiant verse of hope — the promise we return to again and again:

“Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.” — Micah 7:8

Four short lines, and every one of them carries something worth holding onto.

“Though I have fallen…”

Notice the honesty. The verse doesn’t pretend the fall never happened — it names it. Real faith isn’t denial. It doesn’t ask you to act like you were never knocked down, or to hide the hard parts of your story. It simply refuses to let the fall be the end of the story.

“…I will rise.”

Not “I might.” Not “if I’m strong enough.” I will rise. And notice when it’s spoken — in the middle of the darkness, before the light has returned. This is hope declared in advance: the choice to trust that this chapter is not the final one, even while you’re still in it.

“…the Lord will be my light.”

Here’s the anchor. The rising isn’t something we manufacture on our own. When we can’t see the way forward, God becomes the light that leads us through. We don’t have to summon the strength to climb out by ourselves. We simply have to trust the One who meets us in the dark and lights the next step.

A verse to carry.

Whatever you’re facing this week, let this be the sentence you hold onto: I have fallen, but I will rise, because the Lord is my light. Say it out loud if you need to. Write it where you’ll see it. Let it become your rehearsal of hope.
